MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Samford women's tennis team fell by a score of 4-3 at Middle Tennessee Friday afternoon.
 
Middle Tennessee won the No.  2 and No. 3 doubles matches to earn the first point of the match. The doubles match on the No. 1 court did not finish.
 
In singles, Samford earned wins at the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 positions, but MTSU took the matches at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 to secure the 4-3 win.
 
At No. 3 singles, Holly Horsfall, in her first season at Samford after transferring from MTSU, defeated Lee Barnard, 6-4, 6-2. On the No. 4 singles court, Elsa Pool earned a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over Lidia Burrows. At No. 6 singles, Arianna Beltrame defeated Luisa Zirilli, 6-3, 6-2.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 3-3 so far this season. Middle Tennessee improves to 7-3 with the win.
 
Samford will return to action on Friday, Feb. 16, when the Bulldogs host Georgia State. The match is set for a 3 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
