BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 win over Murray State Saturday morning at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
Samford picked up the doubles points with wins on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts. The match at No. 1 doubles was not finished. At No. 2, Holly Horsfall and Elsa Pool defeated Amina Hadzic and Anja Loncarevic, 6-1. On the No. 3 doubles court, Arianna Beltrame and Grace Jennings earned a 6-2 win over Stasya Sharapova and Sara Bjork.
 
In singles, Samford picked up wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 to earn the 6-1 win. At No. 1, Roos van der Zwaan defeated Claire Chang, 7-6, 6-4. On the No. 2 singles court, Ellie Gerlach defeated Sharapova, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6.
 
At No. 3 singles, Horsfall defeated Loncarevic, 3-5, 6-2, 6-2. On the No. 5 singles court, Beltrame earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sara Loncarevic. At No. 6 singles, Jennings defeated Bjork, 6-1, 6-1.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 6-6 on the season. Murray State falls to 4-5 with the loss.
 
Samford will return to action March 15, when the Bulldogs play at College of Charleston. The match is set for a 1 p.m. (CT) start from Charleston, S.C.
