CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Samford women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 non-conference decision at College of Charleston Thursday afternoon at Patriots Point.

Samford's Arianna Beltrame and Grace Jennings earned a win on the No. 3 doubles court, 6-2 over Sarah Jane Jones and Sarah Zschunke. However, the Cougars earned wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the first point of the match.

In singles, Samford won the matches at No. 4 and No. 6. At No. 4, Elsa Pool defeated Catalina Medici, 0-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-6. On the No. 6 singles court, Jennings defeated Ava Turner, 7-5, 6-2.

College of Charleston, however, picked up singles wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 to pull out the 5-2 win.

With the loss, Samford falls to 6-7 on the season. College of Charleston improves to 10-6 with the win.

Samford will open Southern Conference play by hosting Mercer Thursday, March 22. The match is set for a 2 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
