CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The third-seeded Samford women's tennis team picked up a 4-2 win over sixth-seeded Western Carolina in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Tournament Friday at The Champions Club.

With the win, Samford improves to 13-9. The Bulldogs advance to take on second-seeded ETSU in Saturday's semifinals at 1 p.m. (CT). Western Carolina ends its season with a record of 9-10.

In doubles, Samford won at the No. 3 position, but dropped the matches at No. 1 and No. 2, and Western Carolina earned the first point of the match. At No. 3 doubles, Arianna Beltrame and Grace Jennings defeated Carli Deehr and Caitlin Ward, 6-1.

In singles, Samford picked up wins at No. 1, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to pull away for the 4-2 win. At No. 1, Roos van der Zwaan defeated Jordan Strickland, 6-4, 6-3. On the No. 4 singles court, Elsa Pool earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Savannah Taranto.

At No. 5 singles, Beltrame defeated Ward, 6-0 (7-3), 7-6. On the No. 6 singles court, Jennings defeated Alexa Webb, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
