BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team earned its fifth-straight victory with a 5-2 win over Alabama State Thursday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
In doubles, Samford earned the win on the No. 1 court, with Roos van der Zwaan and Ellie Gerlach defeating Reka Szentes and Chloe Kambaba, 6-2. Alabama State, however, took the matches at No. 2 and No. 3, to pick up the first point of the match.
 
Samford earned singles wins at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to pull away for the 5-2 win. At No. 1, van der Zwaan defeated Kambaba, 6-2, 6-2. On the No. 3 singles court, Holly Horsfall defeated Gabriela Lackova, 6-3, 6-2.
 
At No. 4 singles, Elsa Pool earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Lea Krajcovicova. At the No. 5 position, Arianna Beltrame defeated Mirna Curcic, 6-0, 6-1. On the No. 6 singles court, Grace Jennings defeated Marija Blazevic, 7-6, 7-5.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 11-7 on the season. Alabama State falls to 10-8 with the loss.
 
Samford will return to action on April 8, when the Bulldogs play at ETSU. The match is set for a 12 p.m. (CT) start from Johnson City, Tenn.
