Samford Teams Post High GPAs For Spring Semester

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— Samford's 360 student-athletes posted an overall grade-point average of 3.06 in the recently completed spring semester.

"We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for performing consistently at a high level in the classroom," Associate AD for Academics and Compliance Harold Goss said. "The championships our teams have won, along with high marks they receive academically show that we have true student-athletes at Samford, and we couldn't be prouder of these accomplishments."

The group finished with GPAs of over 3.00 in each of the last four semesters. Samford student-athletes had 3.04 GPAs in fall 2016, spring 2017 and fall 2017, before improving to a 3.06 this spring.

A total of 11 Samford teams posted a GPA of over 3.0 for the spring semester. The teams with a 3.0 or better GPA were baseball (3.06), men's cross country (3.02), men's tennis (3.28), women's basketball (3.30), women's cross country (3.57), women's golf (3.41), softball (3.03), women's soccer (3.58), women's tennis (3.37), women's track and field (3.35) and women's volleyball (3.34).  

The total 3.06 GPA for all student-athletes was the highest for Samford in the last five years.

The semester wrapped up a successful year for Samford Athletics. Samford teams won three SoCon titles (women's soccer regular season, women's indoor track and field and baseball tournament). Academically, Samford's teams posted an average score of 983.6 in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) report, and three Samford teams earned Public Recognition Awards.
