BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team dropped a 7-1 decision to Xavier in the second game of a three-game series Saturday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

With the loss, Samford falls to 2-3 on the young season. Xavier improves to 1-4 with the win.

FROM THE BOX SCORE

For Samford in the loss, Brooks Carlson went 3-for-5 at the plate.
Jordan Fucci went 2-for-5 with a home run and one RBI.
Jesse McCord (0-1) pitched 3.0 innings, giving up three runs on six hits to take the loss on the mound for Samford.
Ryan Altenberger went 3-for-3 with two RBI to lead Xavier in the win.
Jack Housinger was 3-for-5 with an RBI for the Musketeers.
Nick Zwack (1-0) tossed 5.1 innings, allowing one run on six hits to earn the win for Xavier.

SCORING SUMMARY

Xavier jumped on top first with two runs in the top of the second inning.
The Musketeers then added a run each in the third, fourth and fifth innings to push their lead to 5-0.
Samford got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out in the inning, Fucci homered to right-center field to cut the Xavier lead to 5-1.
Xavier added a run in the seventh inning and another in the eighth to make the final score 7-1.
