BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team earned a 4-3 win over Alabama State Saturday at the Samford Tennis Center.
"We are a tired team at the moment," Samford head coach
David Vest said. "Hats off to our girls today because we had to scrap and fight the entire match to get that fourth point. Alabama State was feisty and they deserve a lot of credit for getting us out of our comfort zone and forcing us to play through some tired legs and bodies. We have played six matches in 12 days, but we will be better for it in the coming weeks."
With the win, Samford improves to 8-4 on the season. Alabama State falls to 3-8 with the loss.
"Right now, we are playing some great singles," Vest said. "We just need to rest up in the next few days, sort out some things with our doubles, and start preparing for our upcoming conference schedule."
In doubles, Samford won on the No. 3 court, but Alabama State picked up wins on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts to earn the first point of the match.
Samford picked up singles wins at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 to secure the 4-3 victory.
Samford will host Memphis on Saturday, March 9. The match is set for a 12 p.m. (CT) start from the Samford Tennis Center and admission is FREE! A full recap and results will be posted to
www.samfordsports.com following the completion of the match.
