MACON, Ga. – The Samford women's tennis team opened Southern Conference play with a 4-3 win at Mercer Thursday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Courts.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 10-6 overall and 1-0 in Southern Conference play. Mercer falls to 10-8 overall and 2-1 in league play.
 
Samford won the doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 3 to secure the first point of the match.
 
In singles, Samford claimed wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6. Mercer earned wins at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 singles as Samford picked up the 4-3 victory.
 
Samford will host ETSU Saturday. The match is set for an 11 a.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center. A full recap and results will be posted to www.samfordsports.com following the completion of the match.
