SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford placed a league-best 73 student-athletes on the Southern Conference's Spring Academic All-Conference team, released by the league Tuesday afternoon.

Samford's 73 student-athletes on the team posted an average grade-point average of 3.63. To be eligible for the Academic All-Conference team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA at the conclusion of the spring semester and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams' competitions. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least three semesters at their institutions, making true freshmen and first-year transfers ineligible for inclusion.

Both the women's indoor track and field and outdoor track and field teams led Samford teams with 12 representatives on the team each. The men's outdoor track and field team placed nine student-athletes on the team, while the men's indoor track and field team had eight representatives.

The women's tennis team placed seven members on the team, while the baseball and softball teams had six representatives each. Women's basketball placed four members on the team, while women's golf had three, and men's basketball, men's golf and men's tennis had two members each.

For the conference as a whole, 580 student-athletes were named to the team, the most in league history. The SoCon began selecting teams in the winter of 2002-03 and selected fall, winter and spring teams through 2014-15. Beginning in 2015-16, the winter and spring teams were combined, with those student-athletes honored after the spring semester. The previous record was 571 selections in the spring of 2018.

Samford led all schools with 73 spots on the team, followed by Mercer with 65. ETSU (56), Furman (55), The Citadel (54) and Western Carolina (50) all had at least 50.
