BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team earned a 6-1 win over Lipscomb Friday evening at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 1-1 on the young season. Lipscomb is 0-1 with the loss.
 
Samford earned the doubles point with wins on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts. The match at No. 3 doubles was not finished.
 
In singles, Samford won at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to earn the 6-1 win. At No. 1 singles,  Rouxanne Jense Van Rensburg defeated Kate Popova, 6-4, 6-1. At No. 2, Grace Jennings earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Emma Zakordoniec.
 
On the No. 4 singles court, Natalia De Ugarte defeated Anja Trbeznik, 6-3, 6-0. On the No. 5 singles court, Arianna Beltrame defeated Liza Diachenko, 2-6, 6-1, 1-0. At No. 6, Cindy Oest defeated Maddox Bandy, 8-3.
 
Samford will host Arkansas State Saturday at 12 p.m. at the Samford Tennis Center. Admission to the match is FREE.
