Bulldogs To Compete At 2020 SoCon Cross Country Championships

MACON, Ga. – Samford University men's and women's cross country teams will take to the Georgia Premier Cross-Country course in Macon, Ga. tomorrow, for the 2020 Southern Conference Championships.
The Bulldogs participated in one warm-up meet, the Mercer Invitational, where Samford finished first in the women's competition and second in the men's race. The squads were the first to return to action following the delay for COVID-19.
The young men's team is led by upperclassmen returners Hunter Poole (senior) Ben Garner (junior) and Luke Dobbins (junior), as well as sophomores Jack Elliott and Jeb Jones.
The Bulldog newcomers include junior transfer Jose Peñalver, and a quartet of freshmen-Cole Arrington, Andrew Cox, Charlie Lott, and Ben Myers. The men will run their eight-kilometer course first tomorrow, with the gun set for 9:00 a.m.
The women's team returns sophomore McKenzie Hogue, who took home the SAMSPY for rookie of year last for her performance in 2019. Juniors Lindsey Biggar and Mary Kellison Thorne, redshirt-senior Allie Nelson and sophomore Katie Strozier also return for the Bulldogs.
Freshmen Sadie Cook, Tatum Foreman, and Harper McGowan will round out the roster for Samford ahead of their 9:45 a.m. start tomorrow.
