BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team used an impressive all-around performance to earn a 15-1 win over UNC Asheville in the season opener for both teams Friday evening at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Samford scored one run in the first inning and two in the third on a two-run home run by Brooks Carlson to take the early 3-0 lead.
- Samford pulled away with three runs in the fourth inning, two in the fifth and three more in the sixth to push its lead to 11-0.
- Samford added a run in the seventh inning, and three in the eighth, including a two-run homer by Tyler McManus to take a 15-0 lead.
- UNC Asheville plated its lone run in the top of the ninth inning on a solo home run by Brandon Lankford.
ON THE MOUND
- Samuel Strickland (1-0) pitched 5.0 strong innings, giving up no runs on just one hit and striking out seven batters to earn the win for Samford.
- Jacob Edwards (0-1) tossed 4.0 innings, giving up six runs on five hits to take the loss for UNC Asheville.
NOTABLES
- McManus went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI for Samford.
- Carlson went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
