PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Samford baseball team dropped a 5-3 decision to Troy on the second day of the Cox Diamond Invitational Saturday at Pensacola Wahoo Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Troy plated two runs in the first inning, one in the second and another in the third to take a 4-0 lead.
- Samford came back with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Ayrton Schafer doubled to drive in Kaden Dreier, cutting the Troy lead to 4-1.
- The Trojans added a run in the top of the seventh inning to make the score 5-1.
- Dreier hit a two-run home run to left field in the eighth inning to cut the lead to 5-3.
ON THE MOUND
- Jalon Long (0-2) pitched 5.0 innings, giving up four runs on nine hits to take the loss for Samford.
- Orlando Ortiz (2-0) pitched 6.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits to earn the win for the Trojans.
- Troy's D.J. Wilkinson picked up his second save of the season, tossing the final inning, without allowing a hit.
NOTABLES
- Max Pinto went 2-for-4 for Samford at the plate.
- Dreier homered and drove in two runs in a 1-for-2 performance.
