Women's Tennis Returns To The Court Friday and Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team is looking to bounce back this week with two home matches against Nicholls State and South Alabama. The Bulldogs will face Nicholls State first this Friday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. and will then compete against South Alabama the next day, Saturday, Feb. 20, at 12 p.m.

Samford suffered a 6-1 loss to BIG 12 opponent TCU last week, which now puts the Bulldogs at an overall record of 2-4 this season. Nicholls States will enter competition with a record of 0-1, while South Alabama currently sits at 3-0. However, the Jaguars will compete against West Alabama and Southern Miss before heading to Birmingham, Alabama.

  • Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg had a solid performance last week against TCU where she was the lone Bulldog to defeat her opponent in singles play. Van Rensburg secured a 4-6, 6-3, 4-1 victory over ranked Tate Schroeder. She also has a current record of 4-2 at the No. 1 spot so far this season.
  • Alexis Lopez joined Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg in doubles play against TCU where they locked in a dominant 6-1 win over Mercedes Aristegui and Margaret Polk at the No. 1 spot. This was the duos first time competing together in doubles play this season.
 
OPPONENT QUICK LOOKS:
  • The Nicholls State women's tennis team has an overall record of 0-1 on the season after having two matches postponed and one canceled. They were handed their one loss by South Alabama with a final score of 6-1.
  • With a current record of 3-0, the South Alabama women's tennis team has captured victories against Xavier (La.), Nicholls State, and Southeastern Louisiana. Yu Fujoka is a strong contender for the Jaguars with a 3-0 record with two wins at the No. 1 spot and one at the No. 2 spot.
