BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team completed its season-opening, three-game sweep of UT Martin with a 3-1 win Sunday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UT Martin took the early lead with a run in the top of the first inning when Sean Dixson scored on a ground out by Casey Harford.
- Samford tied the score in the bottom of the first inning when Towns King singled to center field to drive in Brooks Carlson.
- The Bulldogs plated two runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good at 3-1.
- Sonny DiChiara hit a solo home run to right-center field to give Samford a 2-1 lead. Carson Allison later scored on an error to make the score 3-1.
ON THE MOUND
- Hamp Skinner (1-0) pitched 5.0 innings in relief, allowing no runs on one hit and striking out eight batters without allowing a walk to earn the win the mound for Samford.
- Chase Isbell pitched the final 2.0 hitless innings, striking out five batters to pick up his first save of the season.
- Baylor Jones (0-1) pitched a third of an inning in relief, giving up two runs to take the loss for the Skyhawks.
NOTABLES
- Sonny DiChiara hit his second home run of the season to lead Samford at the plate.
- Towns King went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Bulldogs.
- Casey Harford drove in UT Martin's lone run of the game.
