BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team completed its season-opening, three-game sweep of UT Martin with a 3-1 win Sunday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

UT Martin took the early lead with a run in the top of the first inning when Sean Dixson scored on a ground out by Casey Harford.
Samford tied the score in the bottom of the first inning when Towns King singled to center field to drive in Brooks Carlson.
The Bulldogs plated two runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good at 3-1.
Sonny DiChiara hit a solo home run to right-center field to give Samford a 2-1 lead. Carson Allison later scored on an error to make the score 3-1.

ON THE MOUND

Hamp Skinner (1-0) pitched 5.0 innings in relief, allowing no runs on one hit and striking out eight batters without allowing a walk to earn the win the mound for Samford.
Chase Isbell pitched the final 2.0 hitless innings, striking out five batters to pick up his first save of the season.
Baylor Jones (0-1) pitched a third of an inning in relief, giving up two runs to take the loss for the Skyhawks.

NOTABLES

Sonny DiChiara hit his second home run of the season to lead Samford at the plate.
Towns King went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Bulldogs.
Casey Harford drove in UT Martin's lone run of the game.
