HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alabama State scored a run in the first inning and four more in the second to take an early 5-0 lead.
- Samford came back with three runs in the bottom of the second, with Brooks Carlson driving in two runs and Max Pinto driving in one to cut the lead to 5-3.
- Alabama State added to its lead with two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth to push the lead to 8-3.
- Samford plated two runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to close to within one run at 8-7. In the fifth inning, Tyler McManus hit a two-run home run. In the sixth inning, Kaden Dreier drove in two runs with a single.
- Alabama State added to its lead with two runs in the seventh inning to make the score 10-7.
- Samford again plated two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to cut the lead to 10-9. Dreier again drove in two runs with a single to bring Samford to within one run.
- Alabama State added one final run in the top of the ninth inning to make the final score 11-9.
ON THE MOUND
- Samford threw eight pitchers in the game, with Jalon Long (0-1) starting the game and giving up five runs on five hits over 2.0 innings to take the loss for the Bulldogs.
- Alabama State's Jordan Gould pitched 1.2 innings in relief to earn the win for the Hornets.
- ASU's Payton Harris pitched the final 2.0 innings to pick up his first save of the season.
NOTABLES
- For Samford at the plate, Kaden Dreier went 2-for-4 with four RBI.
- Tyler McManus homered and drove in two runs in a 1-for-5 performance.
- Brooks Carlson also drove in two runs, going 1-for-4 at the plate.
- For Alabama State, Christopher DeGuzman went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and four RBI.
- Trenton Jamison and Hunter May both homered for Alabama State.
