BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Throughout the 2021 season, Samford Athletics will sit down for a Q&A with student-athletes from our 17 sports for a series entitled, "
Fast Five." This week's "Fast Five" features Samford Men's Basketball sophomore forward
Stanley Henderson, Jr.
Question: Do you have any game day rituals or superstitions?
Answer: I like to put WD40 on my brakes before the game.
Question: What do you think Coach McMillan brings to Samford and the men's basketball team?
Answer: He brings a community. He wants to change the culture here, and he's more involved with the people who come to the games and it's a whole different vibe that's coming to the Pete. It's cool.
Question: Who do you model your game after?
Answer: Nobody really. I just go out there and do it.
Question: How hard was it for you, sitting out your first two seasons?
Answer: It was really hard. I mean it was really just mental. Having to stay on the grind for a year, and then coming back and last year was supposed to be the year I returned. Then I had a season ending injury days before the first game. That was hard to come through, but I actually had a lot of people who actually stayed in my corner and kept me on the right path, with the physical therapy and stuff I was doing. Now I'm back and it feels good to finally be playing again.
Question: What do you hope to bring to the Samford men's basketball program?
Answer: Toughness. Character. Just being who I am really and doing my own thing.
