Samford University men's basketball team faces the
Bears (11-7, 4-6 SoCon) of
Mercer University for the second time this week on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at the Pete Hanna Center. Tipoff is set for 7 PM with
ESPN+ offering complete coverage.Â
The Bulldogs (6-9, 2-6 SoCon) dropped a heartbreaking, 89-82, double overtime decision to Mercer on Monday at Hawkins Arena. Senior center Jacob Tryon kocked down a jumper as time expired to send it to overtime. Freshman point guard Jaron Rillie scored a career-high 18 points in the loss while grabbing five rebounds and handing out two assists. Jalen Dupree turned in a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.Â
Wednesday's game is the 118th in a series that dates back to the 1902-03 campaign. Mercer, which leads the series standings 71-46, has won 14 straight against the Bulldogs.Â
Mercer enters Saturday's matchup with five players averaging in douible figures. Ross Cummings leads the Bears in scoring (15.8 ppg), ranking 11th overall in the league. The Preseason All-SoCon guard scored 25 points in Monday's clash in Macon, Ga. Â
A.J. Staton-McCray, a 6-5 freshman from Charlotte, N.C., continues to be one of the most productive newcomers in the SoCon for the Bulldogs, averaging 10.3 points and 4.4 rebounds a game.
