Bulldogs To Host ETSU Friday, Travel To Mercer Sunday To Close Out Weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –  The Samford women's tennis team will continue with conference play this weekend with its first match at home on Friday, Mar. 26 at 1 p.m. against ETSU. The Bulldogs will then head to Macon, Georgia where they will compete against Mercer on Sunday, Mar. 28 at 12 p.m. at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
 
Samford will enter this week's competition with an overall record of 10-7 after opening up conference play with a 6-1 win over UNCG this past Friday. The ETSU Buccaneers currently sit at 7-8, while Mercer is notched at 5-5 on its season. The Bears will compete against Georgia Southern and ABAC before taking the court with the Bulldogs.

 BULLDOGS TO WATCH:
  • Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg locked in her 11th win at the No. 1 spot this past week after defeating her opponent, Sophia Adams, from UNCG 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Rensburg also was named SoCon Player of the Week for the second time this season after her impressive performance.
  • After a 6-4, 7-5 victory over UNCG's Julian Craft, Samantha Nanere continues to be a key player in singles competition with an overall record of 8-5. Nanere has captured four wins at both the No. 5 and 6 spots this season.
  • In doubles play, Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg and Alexis Lopez have secured eight wins at the No. 1 spot, while Cindy Oest and Natalia De Ugarte match the duo with eight wins of their own at the No. 2 spot to lead the Bulldogs.
 
OPPONENT QUICK LOOKS:
  • ETSU has recorded seven wins and eight losses overall this season. The Buccaneers hold a 1-0 record in conference after defeating Mercer by a final score of 6-1. Emilia Alfaro, Maria Fernanda Carvajal, and Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga come together to lead ETSU with seven wins each, while doubles partners, Maria Carvajal and Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga, lead the Buccaneers with an overall record of 7-4.
  • Mercer opened up Southern Conference play with a 6-1 loss against ETSU, while also dropping a 4-3 loss to the Chattanooga Mocs. Alara Hollyfield is a top competitor for the Bears with a record of 1-1 at the No. 1 spot and 6-4 at the No. 2 spot. In doubles, Maeva Roquebert and Mary Courville/Lauren Rich and Marie Mottet lead Mercer with six wins and six losses for each duo.
