BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team dropped a 5-1 decision to ETSU in the final game of a three-game series Saturday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

ETSU took an early lead with a run in the top of the second inning.
The Bucs added two runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh to push their lead to 5-0.
Samford got on the scoreboard when Kaden Dreier scored when Taylor Garris reached on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 5-1.

ON THE MOUND

Zach Hester (1-2) pitched 5.0 innings, allowing one run on one hit to take the loss for the Bulldogs.
Nathaniel Tate (2-2) tossed 6.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits to earn the win for the Bucs.
Matthew Bollenbacher picked up his first save of the season, pitching the final 2.2 innings, giving up just one hit.

NOTABLES

For Samford at the plate, Garrett Howe, Brooks Carlson, Kaden Dreier and Ryan Crockett had one hit each.
For ETSU, Ashton King went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Ethan Cady hit a two-run home run in a 1-for-4 performance at the plate.

NEXT UP

Samford will play at Jacksonville State Tuesday, March 30. The game is set for a 6 p.m. start from Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium.
