Soccer To Face Furman On Friday In SoCon Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's soccer team is looking to capture its fourth SoCon Championship title this Friday, Apr. 16 against No. 2 seed, Furman, at 2 p.m. at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.
 
The Bulldogs secured a dominant 6-1 victory over the Mercer Bears in the SoCon Semifinals, while the Paladins narrowly beat the Chattanooga Mocs 1-0 to advance to the championship. Samford is entering competition with an overall record of 8-1-3, 7-0-2 (SoCon). Furman currently sits at 7-0-2, 6-0-2 (SoCon) on its season.

BULLDOGS TO WATCH
  • Taylor Yount and Kyla Reynolds have both scored a team-high four goals this season with Yount recording 29 shots after starting in all 12 games and Reynolds with 13 shots in her nine appearances on the pitch.
  • Kylie Gazza has also been an impact player for the Bulldogs, both offensively and defensively, with the sophomore scoring three goals off of set pieces, while leading the Samford backline in the center back position.
  • Between the posts, Morgan McAslan has registered 6.5 shutouts for the Bulldogs in her 1116:59 minutes in goal this season. McAslan has recorded a .844 save percentage, making 27 total saves after 80 shots faced.
 
FURMAN QUICK LOOKS:
  • In the regular season, Furman did not drop a match, but drew two double overtime ties against Samford and Wofford. The Paladins have registered 14 goals in 149 shots with 72 being on frame, while tallying 15 assists, 69 corner kicks, and 84 fouls this season.
  • Isabella Gutierrez has started in all nine games this season, collecting four goals, three assists and 30 shots to lead Furman offensively. Kyndal Anderson has also scored four goals for the Paladins, while Nieva Gaither is a key play-maker for Furman with a team-high five assists.  
  • In goal, Addison Corn has played the majority of minutes with 530:41 this season. The freshman goalkeeper has allowed just three goals while making 23 saves in 72 shots faced.
