Baseball’s Win Streak Snapped With Loss At Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.
 – The Samford baseball team saw its eight-game win streak come to an end in a 19-3 loss at Alabama Tuesday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Samford took an early lead when Tyler McManus singled through the left side of the infield to drive in Garrett Howe for a 1-0 Samford lead in the top of the first inning.
  • In the bottom of the third inning, Alabama tied the game at 1-1 when Sam Praytor was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
  • The Crimson Tide took control of the game with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take an 8-1 lead.
  • Alabama added six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 14-1.
  • Samford plated a run in the top of the seventh, but Alabama answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning to push its lead to 19-2.
  • The Bulldogs added another run in the top of the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by Ayrton Schafer to cut the Alabama lead to 19-3.
 
ON THE MOUND
  • Billy Creger (0-1) gave up three runs on one hit to take the loss on the mound for Samford.
  • Grayson Hitt (2-3) tossed 4.0 innings, allowing one run on two hits to earn the win for the Crimson Tide.
 
NOTABLES 
  • McManus drove in one run, going 1-for-2 at the plate for Samford.
  • Schafer and Graham Dvorak drove in a run each for the Bulldogs.
  • For Alabama, Caden Rose and Jackson Tate homered and drove in four runs each.
 
NEXT UP 
Samford will travel to Cullowhee, N.C., for a three-game Southern Conference series at Western Carolina this weekend. The teams are set to play a single game Friday at 4 p.m. (CT), and a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m. (CT).
