BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford junior outside hitter Lauren Deaton has been named honorable mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), the organization announced Wednesday.
 
The All-American nod is the latest in a series of honors Deaton has earned this season. She was named the All-Region by the AVCA at the conclusion of the season. She was also named Southern Conference Player of the Year, and she earned Most Outstanding Player honors after leading the Bulldogs to the SoCon Tournament title.
 
Deaton led the Southern Conference and currently ranked 13th in the nation in kills per set at 4.49. She also led the league and ranked 18th in the nation in total kills at 337.
 
Deaton and the Bulldogs won a second-straight SoCon regular season championship and a third-straight SoCon Tournament title this season. The team finished the season with a record of 15-4 overall and 13-3 in SoCon play.
 
The Bulldogs also earned a third-straight NCAA Tournament bid. Samford has now reached the NCAA Tournament in four of the five seasons head coach Keylor Chan has been in charge of the program.
