BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford second baseman Garrett Howe singled to left field to drive in Will David to lift the Samford baseball team to a 4-3 win over in-state rival Troy Tuesday night at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Troy plated a run in the first inning and another in the third to take a 2-0 lead.
Samford took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when Tyler McManus hit a three-run home run to left field to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 advantage.
Troy knotted the score at 3-3 when Caleb Bartolero hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the ninth inning.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, David singled to lead off the inning and then moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Taylor Garris. Max Pinto then singled, moving David to third base. Howe then singled to left field, driving in David for the 4-3 Samford win.

ON THE MOUND

Chase Isbell (2-1) pitched the final inning for Samford, allowing one run on one hit to pick up the win for the Bulldogs.
Samford used eight total pitchers in the game, as Jacob Cravey, Billy Creger, Jalon Long, Gene Hurst, Logan Jones, Charles Crosby and Blake Bortak also saw time on the mound for the Bulldogs.
Mason Kenney (1-2) tossed 1.1 innings in relief, giving up one run on four hits to take the loss for the Trojans.

NOTABLES

Pinto went 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead Samford at the plate.
McManus homered, driving in three runs in a 1-for-2 performance.
Howe drove in a run, going 1-for-4 at the plate.
For Troy, Bartolero went 2-for-4 with a home run and one RBI.
Samford is now 7-1 in one-run games this season.

NEXT UP
Samford will host The Citadel in a three-game Southern Conference series, Friday and Saturday. The teams are set to play Friday at 4 p.m., and a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m.
