SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford's
Maggie Johnston and
Justin Stuckey were named the Southern Conference Women's and Men's Field Athletes of the Month, respectively, when the league released its monthly honors for April Monday afternoon.
Johnston earned a pair of silver medals in the hammer throw (51.78 meters, 169' 10") and the discus throw (50.04 meters, 164' 2") at the UAB Spring Invitational. She also set a new program record in the women's discus with a throw of 51.99 meters (170' 7") finishing fourth in the event at the Crimson Tide Invitational. Additionally, she broke her own program record in the women's discus at the War Eagle Invite with a mark of 53.35 meters (175' 0"), claiming the bronze in the event.
Stuckey won the men's high jump at the UAB Spring Invitational with a jump of 2.06 meters (6' 9"). He took home the silver in the men's high jump at the Crimson Tide Invite posting a mark of 2.14 meters (7' 0.25"). Stuckey also set a new program record at the War Eagle Invite, winning the men's high jump with a leap of 2.21 meters (7' 3") topping
Keyth Fightmaster's previous outdoor record of 2.20 meters (7' 2.50").
Samford will next compete in the Falcon Invite, hosted by Montevallo May 14.
