Baseball Takes Down Cross-Town Rival UAB, 9-4

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team won its home finale for the 2021 season by taking down cross-town rival UAB, 9-4 Tuesday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bulldogs got the game off to a hot start with five runs in the bottom of the first inning. The majority of the damage came on a three-run home run by Towns King. Tyler McManus and Graham Dvorak also drove in a run each in the inning as Samford took a 5-0 lead.
  • Samford plated another run in the second inning to push its lead to 6-0. Brooks Carlson doubled down the left-field line to drive in Max Pinto for Samford's sixth run of the contest.
  • The Bulldogs added three more runs in the fourth inning to make the score 9-0. McManus hit a two-run home run to left-center field, and King later scored on a wild pitch as Samford built a nine-run lead.
  • The Samford pitchers held UAB scoreless until the top of the seventh inning when the Blazers plated four runs. Colton Schultz hit a two-run home run and Thomas Johns hit a solo shot, while Jess Davis also drove in a run, cutting the lead to 9-4.

  • UAB was led at the plate by Schultz, going 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI.
 
 NEXT UP 
Samford will wrap up its regular season with a three-game series at ETSU Thursday and Friday. The teams are scheduled to play Thursday at 4 p.m. (CT) and a doubleheader Friday at 12 p.m. (CT).
