JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Samford baseball team dropped an 11-1 decision in seven innings in the first game of a three-game series at ETSU Thursday evening at Thomas Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams were scoreless for the first three and a half innings of the contest.
- ETSU broke the scoreless tie with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Noah Webb hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Sean Kearney for the game's first run. Jake Lyle then singled to drive in David Beam. Reese Farmer then doubled to drive in two runs, and Ashton King singled to give ETSU a 5-0 lead.
- The Bucs added six runs in the fifth inning to push the ETSU lead to 11-0. Bryce Hodge and Webb drove in two runs each, and Kyle Richardson and King drove in a run each as the Bucs built an 11-run lead.
- Samford got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning when Sonny DiChiara hit his league-leading 14th home run of the season to cut the ETSU lead to 11-1.
ON THE MOUND
- Samuel Strickland (5-3) took the loss for Samford, pitching 3.2 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits.
- Zach Kirby (3-1) earned the win for the Bucs, tossing the complete 7.0 innings, allowing one run on six hits.
NOTABLES
- Will David went 2-for-3 to lead Samford at the plate.
- DiChiara drove in Samford's lone run with a home run, going 1-for-3.
- For ETSU, Hodge went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
