LEXINGTON, Va. – The Samford baseball team completed a three-game sweep of VMI with an 18-1 win in seven innings Saturday afternoon at Gray-Minor Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Samford jumped out to an early lead when Ryan Crockett hit a three-run home run to left-center field in the top of the first inning to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead.
- VMI came back with a run in the bottom of the first inning on a home run by Will Knight to cut the Samford lead to 3-1.
- In the top of the second inning, Brooks Carlson hit a two-run home run to left-center field to push the Samford lead to 5-1.
- The Bulldogs added a run in the top of the fourth inning when Taylor Garris scored on a passed ball to make the score 6-1.
- In the top of the fifth inning, Tyler McManus led the inning off with a home run to push the Samford lead to 7-1. Garrett Howe later singled to drive in Crockett to make the score 8-1.
- Samford added five runs in the sixth inning to push its lead to 13-1. Ayrton Schafer hit a three-run home run, and McManus and Kaden Dreier drove in a run each in the inning.
- The Bulldogs scored five more runs in the seventh inning to make the score 18-1.
ON THE MOUND
- Zach Hester (2-3) earned the win on the mound for Samford, pitching 5.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits.
- Tyler Bradt (1-2) took the loss for the Keydets, tossing 5.0 innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits.
NOTABLES
- Carlson went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI to lead Samford at the plate.
- Crockett went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI for the Bulldogs.
- McManus also went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI.
- Schafer also homered for Samford, a three-run shot, and he drove in four total runs in the win.
- For VMI, Knight hit a home run for the Keydets' lone run in the game.

Samford will host Auburn Tuesday, May 11. The game is set for a 6 p.m. start from the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
