BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team wrapped up the first of two Samford Invites to open the 2021 fall season this weekend at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
Samford was joined in the tournament by Southern Mississippi, UAB, Georgia Southern and Kennesaw State.
 
In singles, Samford's Matthew Gooch and Will Gray posted records of 2-2 each to lead the team. Gooch earned wins over Jaap Aaderling from Georgia Southern (1-6, 6-3, 1-0) and Thanos Spyropoulos from UAB (3-6, 6-1, 1-0). Gray earned wins over Alexandros Roumpis from Georgia Southern (6-3, 2-6, 1-0) and Alexander Gima from Southern Mississippi (7-6, 6-3).
