BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team opened the 2022 spring season with a dominating 7-0 win over Alabama State Saturday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
In doubles, Samford won on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts to earn the first point of the match. At No. 1 doubles, Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg and Alexis Lopez defeated Lizaveta Demchenko and Anja Hribljan, 6-1. On the No. 2 doubles court, Samantha Nanere and Sofia Zaprianov earned a 6-0 win over Sahra Bouchaala and Francesca Duca.
 
In singles, Samford won on all six courts, with five of the six wins coming in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, Van Rensburg defeated Demchenko, 6-0, 6-1. Nanere earned the win at No. 2 singles, defeating Bouchaala, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6. At No. 3 singles, Lopez earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Duca.
 
On the No. 4 singles court, Zaprianov defeated Urska Velec, 6-4, 7-5. At No. 5 singles, Lindsay Song picked up a 6-1, 7-5 win over Beca Acena. In the No. 6 spot, Ally Hayduk earned a 6-0 6-3 win over Timothee Legaud.
 
Samford will play at Alabama on Sunday, Jan. 23 at 11 a.m.
