Men’s Hoops To Play At Western Carolina Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 - The Samford men's basketball team (12-8, 2-6 SoCon) will travel to Cullowhee, N.C., to take on the Western Carolina Catamounts (8-13, 2-6 SoCon) Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT) at the Ramsey Center. The game can be seen live on ESPN+/NexStar with David Jackson (PBP) and Matt Matheny (Color) calling the action. Live stats will also be available at www.CatamountSports.com.    
 
  • Samford and Western Carolina are meeting for the 28th time, with the Catamounts owning a 14-13 series lead. The teams met earlier this season, with Samford earning an 85-60 win in the Pete Hanna Center.  
  • The Bulldogs are coming into the game off an impressive 75-61 win over Mercer Wednesday evening in the Pete Hanna Center. Samford was led in the win by Ques Glover with 20 points, five assists and four steals. Wesley Cardet scored 16 points and dished out four assists. Jaden Campbell had 14 points for Samford, while Logan Dye added 11 points.
  • Samford has been led in scoring so far this season by sophomore guard Ques Glover, who ranks fourth in the Southern Conference with an average of 18.0 points per game. Glover leads the SoCon in free throw percentage (.894) and ranks second in assists (4.4 apg.).  Jermaine Marshall ranks third in the SoCon in rebounding, grabbing 8.2 boards per contest.
  • Western Carolina has a record of 8-13 overall and 2-6 in Southern Conference play. The Catamounts are coming off a 68-66 loss at The Citadel Wednesday evening. In the loss for WCU, Marcus Banks led the way with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Nicholas Robinson had 12 points for the Catamounts.  
  • Western Carolina has been led in scoring so far this season by Nicholas Robinson, averaging 14.3 points per game. Robinson is also the team's leading rebounder, grabbing 7.0 boards per contest.
  • Western Carolina is averaging 73.1 points per game so far this season, while allowing 78.1 points per contest. 
  • Samford is averaging 74.8 points per game while also giving up 74.3 entering Saturday afternoon's game at Western Carolina.
  • Samford has a record of 3-6 in games played on the road so far this season. The Bulldogs have earned road victories at Oregon State, Alabama State and Ole Miss. Samford has fallen on the road to San Francisco, Furman, Mercer, Wofford, VMI and UNC Greensboro.
  • Samford is No. 1 in the SoCon in turnovers forced per game (14.9) and No. 2 in steals per game (7.9). The Bulldogs forced a season-high 33 turnovers versus Spring Hill.
  • Samford has made a habit of winning close games, posting a record of 5-3 in games decided by three points or less.
  • The Bulldogs are 11-1 when leading at halftime this season and 8-3 on the year when controlling the opening tipoff.
  • Samford's bench has outscored the opposition's reserves 12 times this season, leading to a 9-3 mark in those contests.
  • Mr. Double-Double Jermaine Marshall (6-6, 225, So.) recorded his seventh double-double this season with 14 points and 11 boards in Samford's 85-60 win over Western Carolina. The Akron transfer has been a force on the wing for the Bulldogs, averaging 11.9 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.
  • Ques Glover (6-0, 180, So.) has made a remarkable impact on the Bulldogs so far this year, ranking No. 4 the SoCon in scoring at 18.0 points per game while ranking second in the SoCon in assists at 4.4 per game. The Knoxville, Tenn., native, scored 20 points in Wednesday night's 75-61 win over Mercer.
  • Jaden Campbell (6-5, 195, Soph.) has been a major spark for the Bulldogs, averaging 10.8 points per game, ranking 23rd in the Southern Conference. The Brampton, Ontario native had a big game in last Wednesday's 75-61 win over Mercer, contributing 14 points to the win.
  • Wesley Cardet, Jr. (6-6, 205, Fr.), one of the nation's most sought after recruits, continues to develop as the season progresses. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native is averaging 8.8 points, and 4.7 rebounds per game. He had 14 points in Wednesday night's win over Mercer. Cardet was the No. 60 ranked player in the nation and No. 13 at his position by Rivals at West Oaks.
  • Jacob Tryon (6-11, 220, Sr.) has continued to be a presence down low for Samford this season. Tryon currently ranks sixth in the Southern Conference in blocked shots per game, averaging 1.1 per contest.
  • In the last meeting between Samford and Western Carolina, played on Jan. 8, Samford earned an 85-60 win in the Pete Hanna Center. Samford was led in the win by Jermaine Marshall with his seventh double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Wesley Cardet was the team's leading scorer with 18 points. Ques Glover had 16 points and five assists for the Bulldogs. As a team, Samford shot 50 percent from the floor, while holding Western Carolina to just 33.9 percent. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Catamounts, 46-32.

  • After Saturday's game at Western Carolina, Samford will return home to host rival Chattanooga on Wednesday, Feb. 2. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start from the Pete Hanna Center.
