Samford Soccer To Host ETSU And Western Carolina For Final Two Regular-Season Home Contests

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford University soccer team will play host to the ETSU Bucs Friday evening at 6 p.m., and Western Carolina Sunday at 1 p.m., both at Shauna Yelton Field.
 
The ETSU game marks Samford's 2022 Shauna's House Game, raising money for orphans in Ukraine. T-shirts will be available for 15 dollars at the game and the special Shauna's House jerseys the team will wear will be auctioned off during the game, with all proceeds going to the Shauna's House project. Samford and ETSU have met 11 previous times, with Samford owning a 10-1 series lead. Last season, the Bulldogs earned a 2-0 win at ETSU. Samford and Western Carolina have played 16 previous times, with the Bulldogs leading the series, 13-2-1. The teams played last season at Western Carolina, with Samford coming out on top by a score of 2-1.

The Bulldogs enter Friday's contest with a record of 6-3-5 overall and 2-1-2 in SoCon play. Samford played at Chattanooga last Friday evening, with the game ending in a 1-1 tie. For the season, Samford has been led by Kylie Gazza with four goals and one assist for a total of nine points. Whitaker Buchanan has two goals and three assists for seven points, while Ella Simpson has three goals and one assist, also for seven points.
 
The Samford defense has been stellar again this season. The Bulldogs have allowed more than one goal just once in the regular season in a 2-2 tie with Mercer. Samford head coach Todd Yelton enters this week with 299 career wins. 259 of those wins have come at Samford.

ETSU enters Friday night's game with a mark of 5-5-3 overall and 3-2-1 in SoCon play. The Bucs hosted UNCG last Sunday, earning a 2-1 win over the Spartans. ETSU has been led by Emma Arnold with four goals and one assist for a total of nine points. Grace Eatz has two goals and one assist, while Aliya Cooper had netted two goals for the Bucs. ETSU is coached by Jay Yelton, the brother of Samford head coach Todd Yelton. Jay spent 17 seasons as an assistant on his brother's staff at Samford. Jay's assistant coach is another Yelton brother, Matt Yelton.
 
Western Carolina is currently 4-5-5 overall and 3-2-1 in league action. The Catamounts defeated The Citadel, 6-1, Tuesday evening in Charleston, S.C. WCU will play at Chattanooga Friday evening before taking on Samford Sunday. Isabella DeMarco leads Western Carolina with four goals and three assists for a total of 11 points. Maggie Lloyd also has 11 points, tallying three goals and five assists on the season.
