BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Volleyball team will play its second contest of a four-match homestand on Saturday, Oct. 15 against Wofford.
Saturday's Southern Conference matchup against the Terriers will begin at 5:00 p.m. and be streamed live on ESPN+.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 3-0 sweep against Mercer their last time out on Wednesday, Oct. 12 for win number four in a row.
Kenya McQuirter led the Bulldogs with 17 kills against the Bears and a .364 hitting percentage. Lauren Deaton paced Samford with 13 digs to go along with nine kills while Kayla Keshock (19) and Samantha Horn (16) combined for 35 assists.
The Bulldogs are averaging 16.07 kills per set, 13.79 assists per set, 18 digs per set, and a .315 hitting percentage throughout their current winning streak. McQuirter has posted 4.79 kills per set over that span with a .311 hitting percentage.
Samford has played its best attacking volleyball against SoCon opponents this season, coming into the weekend with an average of 15.33 kills per set and a .278 hitting percentage in conference play.
As a team, the Bulldogs lead the SoCon in hitting percentage (.238), assists per set (12.45), kills per set (13.83), and service aces per set (1.96).
Kayla Keshock currently leads the league with a pace of 10.03 assists per set. The Spanish Fort, Ala. native was named the SoCon Setter of the Month for September. She averaged 10.95 assists per set during the month and posted six matches with 40 more assists.
On the defensive side, Kate Morgan leads Samford and ranks second in the SoCon with an average of 4.32 digs per set. The sophomore libero tallied 26 digs at The Citadel on Sunday.
On Monday, Oct. 10, Morgan was named the SoCon Defensive Player of the week. Waxahachie, Texas native posted a team-high 42 digs in two matches, for a pace of 5.25 per set. She also led the Bulldogs with six service aces. Morgan comes into the week leading the SoCon and ranking seventh in the nation with 39 service aces. She additionally ranks 15th in the country with an average of 0.57 aces per set.
Wofford also heads into this week's action winners of its last four, with 3-0 victories over Western Carolina (Oct. 1), UNC Greensboro (Oct. 2), and The Citadel (Oct. 5), highlighting the streak. The Terriers currently lead the conference in blocks per set at 2.17 while ranking second behind Samford in hitting percentage (.237), assists per set (12.33), and kills per set (13.42).
Before they clash with the Bulldogs, the Terriers will take on Mercer on Friday, Oct. 14 at 6:00 p.m. (CST) in Macon, Ga.
The Bulldogs hold a series record of 20-6 against Wofford and have won six of their last seven against the Terriers. Wofford knocked off the Bulldogs 3-1 in their most recent meeting on Oct. 23 of the 2021 season.
