Samford Football Returns to Action At ETSU

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following the annual bye week, the 15th-ranked Samford Football team hits the road for a Southern Conference matchup at ETSU.
 
The conference showdown is slated for 2:30 p.m. CT in Johnson City, Tenn. and can be streamed on ESPN3 with a simulcast on NexStar affiliate networks.

Before the bye, The Bulldogs opened the season with a 5-1 record and a perfect 3-0 mark in SoCon play. The 5-1 start is the best record to start a season since Samford opened the 2016 campaign at 6-1. 
 
Samford and ETSU are meeting for the 10th time in program history with the Bulldogs holding a 6-3 series lead. ETSU has won the last two meetings by a combined 14 points.
 
Hatcher Climbing The Winning Charts
Following the victory over Wofford, head coach Chris Hatcher improved his record to 45-37 at Samford. Hatcher currently is currently tied with Terry Bowen (45) for the second most wins by a Samford HC and two back of Pat Sullivan (47) for most wins by a coach in program history.
 
Nationally Ranked Dogs
The high-flying aerial act of Michael Hiers and Chandler Smith has paid dividends this season. Smith is tied for 13th in the nation with six receiving touchdowns, while Hiers ranks seventh nationally with 16 passing touchdowns and fifth with a completion percentage of 70.6%. Emmanuel Flowers checks in fifth nationally thanks to his pair of fumble recoveries, while Bulldog punter Bradley Porcellato's 42.8 yards per punt ranks the Australian 19th in the country and second in the SoCon.
 
Putting Up Points
Over the last eight seasons under head coach Chris Hatcherthe Samford offense has scored at least 30 points 45 times. The unit has put up at least 40 points 25 times, and at least 50 points a total of 11 times.
 
Quick Strikes
In eight seasons under head coach Chris Hatcher, Samford has made a habit of quick scoring drives. In Hatcher's time at Samford, Samford has had 174 scoring drives of two minutes or less and 73 that have lasted one
minute or less.
 
Samford Against Tennessee Teams
Samford has an all-time record of 87-87-9 against teams from the state of Tennessee, including a mark of 6-3 against Saturday's opponent, ETSU.
 
Against Southern Conference Teams
Since joining the Southern Conference in 2008, Samford has posted a record of 62-50 in conference games. All-time against each current members of the SoCon, Samford has a mark of 88-80-4, including an 11-13 record against Furman. Samford's all-time record against each current SoCon team is: Chattanooga (10-33-3), The Citadel (8-7), ETSU (6-3), Furman (12-13), Mercer (14-13-1), VMI (6-3), Western Carolina (17-3) and Wofford (15-5).
 
On This Date
Samford has an all-time record of 6-8 in games played on Oct. 22. The last time the Bulldogs played a game on the date was in 2016, a 30-17 win over Western Carolina. The last time Samford won a road game on Oct. 22 was in 2005 when the Bulldogs topped UT-Martin 30-22.
