SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Kate Morgan of the Samford Volleyball team was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season on Monday.
 
Morgan helped guide the Bulldogs to a perfect 2-0 record last week and extend their winning streak to seven matches with a 3-0 victory over UNC Greensboro and a 3-1 win against Western Carolina. The sophomore libero tallied 51 digs over two matches, for an average of eight per set. She also recorded four service aces.
 
The Waxahachie, Texas native set a career-high with 37 digs in the Bulldogs' win over WCU on Saturday, in addition to logging 19 digs against UNCG on Friday.
 
Morgan currently leads the SoCon with an average of 4.68 digs per set, while her 41 total aces and pace of 0.51 aces per set both also rank first in the conference. She additionally ranks 15h nationally in total aces and 22nd in the country in aces per set.
 
The Bulldogs will return to the court on Friday, Oct. 28 for a 5:00 p.m. SoCon contest at Chattanooga.
