BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Men's Basketball team will play its fourth of five-consecutive road contests on Saturday, Dec. 17 against the South Carolina State Bulldogs
Tip-off from Orangeburg, S.C. is set for 2:00 p.m. (CST), with live streaming available on
YouTube.
Saturday's contest is the fifth meeting between SC State and Samford, with Samford holding a 3-1 series advantage. It will be the first meeting between the two teams since the 2018-19 season, in a series that dates back to the 1975-76 season.
Samford is off to a 6-5 start through 11 games, including a mark of 5-2 at home. The Bulldogs are averaging 82.8 points, 40 rebounds, a 44 percent field-goal efficiency, and a +11.8-scoring margin.
The Bulldogs suffered a 75-58 road setback against the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns their last time out on Saturday, Dec. 10.
Jaden Campbell and
Jaron Rillie both scored in double figures against the Ragin' Cajuns, with Campbell logging a team-high 12 points and Rillie registering a season-high 11 points and four assists.
The Bulldogs will look for a reversal of fortune this weekend in Orangeburg, having started 2022-23 with a record of 1-3 in road games. Samford comes into the weekend averaging 79.3 points, 39.8 rebounds, and a field-goal efficiency of 41.1 percent in away games this season.
Bubba Parham is currently averaging a team-high 12.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in road contests this season.
Logan Dye is also averaging a team-best 5.5 boards per contest in away games, while also ranking second in scoring at 11 points per contest.
Ques Glover (11 PPG), Campbell (10.8 PPG), and
Achor Achor (10 PPG) are also averaging double-digit points per game in road matchups.
In their most recent contest, the South Carolina State Bulldogs (1-11) fell 94-84 against UNC Ashville in their home opener on Dec. 13. Five different Bulldogs scored in double figures, with Rakeim Gary's 17 points and five assists leading the way.
Lesown Hallums comes in as the leading scorer for South Carolina State, averaging 12.3 points per game. Davion Everett's 6.8 rebounds per game average serves as the team high.
Erik Martin enters his 1st season as Head Coach at South Carolina State. With over 20 years of coaching experience, Martin is in his 17th season as a Division I coach. He most recently served 16 seasons as an assistant coach under Bob Huggins at West Virginia.
