Bulldogs To Host Rival Chattanooga Wednesday Evening

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 - The Samford men's basketball team (13-8, 3-6 SoCon) will play host to rival Chattanooga (18-4, 8-1 SoCon) Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center. The game can be seen live on ESPN+ with Curt Bloom (PBP), Murry Bartow (Color) and Blake Gardner (Sideline) calling the action. Live stats will also be available at www.SamfordSports.com.
 
  • The game is CBS 42 Night at the Hanna Center. Viewers of CBS 42 can get a ticket for $4.42 by entering the promo code CBS42 at www.SamfordTickets.com.
  • Samford and Chattanooga are meeting for the 106th time, with Chattanooga holding a 65-40 series lead. The teams met twice last season, with Chattanooga winning both contests. The Mocs took the first meeting, 73-68 in Chattanooga, and the second contest by a score of 70-64 in Birmingham. 
  • Samford has been led in scoring so far this season by sophomore guard Ques Glover, who ranks fourth in the Southern Conference with an average of 17.7 points per game. Glover leads the SoCon in free throw percentage (.898) and ranks second in assists (4.3 apg.).  Jermaine Marshall ranks second in the SoCon in rebounding, grabbing 8.1 boards per contest.
  • Chattanooga enters the game with a record of 18-4 overall and 8-1 in  Southern Conference play. The Mocs are coming off a 75-62 win at The Citadel Saturday. Malachi Smith led Chattanooga in the win with 19 points and eight rebounds. Darius Banks had 15 points and seven rebounds for the Mocs, while David Jean-Baptiste had 12 points and Avery Diggs added 10 points.   
  • Chattanooga has been led in scoring so far this season by Malachi Smith, averaging 21.4 points per game. David Jean-Baptiste scores 14.5 points per game, while Silvio DeSousa averages 11.7 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game. 
  • Chattanooga is averaging 76.3 points per game so far this season, while allowing 63.7 points per contest. 
  • Samford is averaging 74.8 points per game while also giving up 73.8 entering Wednesday night's home game against Chattanooga.
  • Samford has a record of 7-2 in the friendly confines of the Pete Hanna Center so far this season. Samford has earned home wins against Merryville College, Spring Hill, Mississippi College, Alabama A&M, Kennesaw State, Western Carolina and Mercer.
  • Samford is No. 1 in the SoCon in turnovers forced per game (14.8) and No. 2 in steals per game (8.0). The Bulldogs forced a season-high 33 turnovers versus Spring Hill.
  • Samford has made a habit of winning close games, posting a record of 5-3 in games decided by three points or less.
  • The Bulldogs are 12-1 when leading at halftime this season and 9-3 on the year when controlling the opening tipoff.
  • Samford's bench has outscored the opposition's reserves 12 times this season, leading to a 9-3 mark in those contests.
  • Mr. Double-Double Jermaine Marshall (6-6, 225, So.) recorded his seventh double-double this season with 14 points and 11 boards in Samford's 85-60 win over Western Carolina. The Akron transfer has been a force on the wing for the Bulldogs, averaging 11.9 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.
  • Ques Glover (6-0, 180, So.) has made a remarkable impact on the Bulldogs so far this year, ranking No. 4 the SoCon in scoring at 17.7 points per game while ranking second in the SoCon in assists at 4.3 per game. The Knoxville, Tenn., native, scored 20 points in last week's 75-61 win over Mercer.
  • Jaden Campbell (6-5, 195, Soph.) has been a major spark for the Bulldogs, averaging 10.8 points per game, ranking 24th in the Southern Conference. The Brampton, Ontario native had a big game in last week's 75-61 win over Mercer, contributing 14 points to the win.
  • Wesley Cardet, Jr. (6-6, 205, Fr.), one of the nation's most sought after recruits, continues to develop as the season progresses. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native is averaging 8.9 points, and 4.7 rebounds per game. He had 14 points in last week's win over Mercer. Cardet was the No. 60 ranked player in the nation and No. 13 at his position by Rivals at West Oaks.
  • Jacob Tryon (6-11, 220, Sr.) has continued to be a presence down low for Samford this season. Tryon currently ranks sixth in the Southern Conference in blocked shots per game, averaging 1.0 per contest.
  • In the last meeting between Samford and Chattanooga, played on Jan, 20, 2021, Chattanooga earned a 70-64 win in the Pete Hanna Center. Logan Dye led Samford with 13 points in the loss. Preston Parks had 12 points and A.J. Staton-McCray followed with 11 points.
