Bulldogs Look To Take Momentum To ETSU Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 - The Samford men's basketball team (15-9, 5-7 SoCon), winners of four of their last five games, will travel to Johnson City, Tenn., to take on the ETSU Bucs (13-13, 5-8 SoCon) Saturday at 3 p.m. (CT). The game can be seen live on ESPN+ with Mike Gallagher (PBP) and DiMeco Childress (Color) calling the action. Live stats will also be available at www.ETSUBucs.com.     
 
  • Samford and ETSU are meeting for the 18th time, with ETSU holding a 16-1 series lead. The teams met earlier this season, with ETSU coming away with an 88-85 win over Samford in the Pete Hanna Center on Jan. 15. 
  • The Bulldogs are coming into the game off a dramatic 65-60 overtime win over Wofford Wednesday evening. Ques Glover led Samford in scoring with 18 points. Jermaine Marshall posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The double-double was his eighth of the season, tying for the most in the SoCon this season. Jacob Tryon had 13 points, five rebounds and four blocked shots, including several key blocks and offensive rebounds down the stretch.
  • Samford has been led in scoring so far this season by sophomore guard Ques Glover, who ranks fourth in the Southern Conference with an average of 18.4 points per game. Glover ranks second in the SoCon in assists per game (4.3) and third in free throw percentage (.854).  Jermaine Marshall ranks third in the SoCon in rebounding, grabbing 7.9 boards per contest.
  • ETSU enters Saturday's game with a mark of 13-13 overall and 5-8 in SoCon play. The Bucs are coming off a 75-71 win over Furman Monday evening at Freedom Hall. 
  • ETSU has been led so far this season by Jordan King, averaging 14.4 points per game.  Ledarrius Brewer is averaging 14.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. David Sloan is scoring 12.6 points per game for the Bucs, while Ty Brewer averages 10.5 points and a team-high 6.6 rebounds per game.
  • ETSU is averaging 72.1 points per game so far this season, while allowing 72.7 points per contest. 
  • Samford is averaging 75.3 points per game while also giving up 74.5 entering Saturday's game at ETSU.
  • Samford has a record of 4-7 in games played on the road this season.   The Bulldogs have earned road victories over Oregon State, Alabama State, Ole Miss and Western Carolina. Samford has fallen on the road to San Francisco, Furman, Mercer, Wofford, VMI, UNC Greensboro and The Citadel.  
  • Samford is No. 1 in the SoCon in turnovers forced per game (14.8) and No. 2 in steals per game (8.1). The Bulldogs forced a season-high 33 turnovers versus Spring Hill.
  • Samford has made a habit of winning close games, posting a record of 5-3 in games decided by three points or less.
  • The Bulldogs are 12-1 when leading at halftime this season and 10-4 on the year when controlling the opening tipoff.
  • Samford's bench has outscored the opposition's reserves 15 times this season, leading to a 11-4 mark in those contests.
  • Mr. Double-Double Jermaine Marshall (6-6, 225, So.) recorded his eighth double-double this season with 15 points and 10 boards in Samford's 65-60 overtime win over Wofford. The eight double-doubles are tied for the most in the SoCon this season. The Akron transfer has been a force on the wing for the Bulldogs, averaging 12.0 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.
  • Ques Glover (6-0, 180, So.) has made a remarkable impact on the Bulldogs so far this year, ranking No. 4 the SoCon in scoring at 18.4 points per game while ranking second in the SoCon in assists at 4.3 per game. The Knoxville, Tenn., native, scored a career-high 30 points last Saturday at The Citadel.
  • Jaden Campbell (6-5, 195, Soph.) has been a major spark for the Bulldogs, averaging 10.6 points per game, ranking 25th in the Southern Conference. The Brampton, Ontario native had a big game in Samford's 75-61 win over Mercer, contributing 14 points to the win.
  • Wesley Cardet, Jr. (6-6, 205, Fr.), one of the nation's most sought after recruits, continues to develop as the season progresses. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native is averaging 8.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He had 14 points in Samford's win over Mercer. Cardet was the No. 60 ranked player in the nation and No. 13 at his position by Rivals at West Oaks.
  • Jacob Tryon (6-11, 220, Sr.) has continued to be a presence down low for Samford this season. Tryon is currently tied for fifth in the Southern Conference in blocked shots per game, averaging 1.1 per contest. He had four blocked shots in the Bulldogs' 65-60 overtime win over Wofford.
  • In the last meeting between Samford and ETSU, played on Jan. 15 in the Pete Hanna Center, the Bucs took an 88-85 win over Samford. Samford was led in the loss by Jaden Campbell with a career-high 20 points and seven rebounds. Logan Dye also scored 20 points for the Bulldogs. Wesley Cardet scored 15 points, while Ques Glover had 12 points and eight assists.

  • After Saturday's game at ETSU, Samford will return home for its next four games. The Bulldogs will host VMI (Feb. 17), UNCG (Feb. 19), The Citadel (Feb. 21) and Furman (Feb. 23) in that stretch.
