2022 FULL SCHEDULE
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A game at defending national champion Georgia, along with the always tough Southern Conference slate highlights the Samford football team's 2022 schedule, released by head coach
Chris Hatcher Friday.
"We are excited about the upcoming 2022 season," Hatcher said. "To get to play the defending national champions in Georgia, and two familiar FCS opponents in Kennesaw State and Tennessee Tech makes for a tough non-conference schedule. Playing in the Southern Conference is always difficult, and we look forward to that challenge again this year."
Samford will open the season by hosting the Kennesaw State Owls on Thursday, Sept. 1 at Bobby Bowden Field at Seibert Stadium. Samford and Kennesaw State have met three times, with the home team winning each meeting. The lone meeting at Samford came in the 2017 season opener when the Bulldogs came from behind to take a 28-23 win.
The Bulldogs will then travel to defending national champion Georgia on Sept. 10. Samford and Georgia have played just twice, with he most recent contest coming in 2017.
Next up Samford will play at former OVC rival Tennessee Tech on Sept. 17. The teams were co-members of the OVC from 2003 through 2007. This will mark the third time in the last four years the teams have played. Samford leads the all-time series, 13-11.
Samford will open Southern Conference play by hosting Western Carolina on Sept. 24. Samford owns a 16-3 series lead against the Catamounts and the Bulldogs have won the last four games in the series.
The Bulldogs will then play at Furman on Oct. 1. The Furman series has always been a tight one, with the Paladins holding a 13-11 series lead. Next up is a home game against Wofford on Oct. 8. Samford has won the last seven-straight against the Terriers and holds a 14-5 series lead.
Samford will then play two-straight on the road. The Bulldogs will play at ETSU on Oct. 22 and at The Citadel on Oct. 29. Samford owns a 6-3 series lead against ETSU and an 8-7 lead against The Citadel.
The Bulldogs will play host to VMI on Nov. 5 before a trip to Chattanooga on Nov. 12. Samford is 6-3 all-time against VMI, and 10-33-3 all-time against Chattanooga. Samford will wrap up the regular season with a home game against Mercer. Samford and Mercer have met 28 previous times, with Samford holding a 14-13-1 series lead.
