CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The third-seeded Samford women's tennis team advance to the semifinals of the 2022 Southern Conference Tournament with an impressive 4-0 win over sixth-seeded Western Carolina in the quarterfinal round Thursday afternoon at The Champions Club.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 13-8 on the season. Western Carolina ends its season with a mark of 12-10. Samford will now take on the No. 2 seed ETSU in Friday's semifinal round at 9 a.m. (CT).
 
Samford won at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions to secure the first point of the match. At No. 1 doubles, Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg and Alexis Lopez defeated Jordyn King and Julia Pezzuco, 6-4. On the No. 3 doubles court, Samantha Nanere and Sofia Zaprianov earned a 6-4 win over Jacy Smith and Miray Konar. The doubles match at the No. 2 position was not finished.
 
In singles, Samford earned wins on the No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 courts, with the matches at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 remaining unfinished. At No. 1 singles, Van Rensburg defeated Kata Foldeak, 6-1, 6-2. At No. 5 singles, Zaprianov defeated Angela Perez, 6-2, 6-4. On the No. 6 singles court, Lindsay Song defeated Pezzuco, 6-1, 6-1.
