Baseball To Host Alabama Tuesday Evening

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 – The Samford University baseball team (18-19, 5-4 SoCon) will play host to the Alabama Crimson Tide (24-17, 9-9 SEC) Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The game can be seen lives on ESPN+.
 
  • Samford enters the week with a mark of 18-19 overall and 5-4 in the Southern Conference. Last week, the Bulldogs fell in a midweek game to Jacksonville State before dropping two-of-three games at UNC Greensboro over the weekend. 
  • Alabama has a record of 24-17 overall and 9-9 in SEC play. The Crimson Tide lost to UAB in a midweek contest and then fell in two-of-three games to Georgia over the weekend. 
  • Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher Will Lynch on the mound Tuesday night. Lynch has a record of 0-3 and an ERA of 12.06.
  • Alabama is slated to start right-handed pitcher Ben Hess. Hess enters the week with a mark of 1-1 and a 5.12 ERA.
  • Samford and Alabama have met 110 previous times, with the Crimson Tide holding a 95-15 series lead. The teams met earlier this season in Tuscaloosa, with Alabama taking a 10-1 victory over Samford. The Bulldogs' last win in the series came in 2018 in a 6-0 victory in Tuscaloosa.
  • Entering this week, Samford leads the Southern Conference in fielding percentage at .973.
  • Towns King has been on a hot streak lately and has lifted his batting average to .328 with 11 doubles, seven home runs and 29 RBI.
  • Colton Ledbetter leads the squad in home runs with 10 and in RBI with 31. He has been on a hot streak over the last five games. During that stretch, he has hit four home runs and drive in 11 runs for the Bulldogs. 
  • Alabama is led at the plate by Tommy Seidl, batting .308 with two homers and 18 RBI. Zane Denton leads the Crimson Tide in doubles with 11, home runs with 11 and RBI with 35. Drew Williamson is hitting .305 with 34 RBI.
  • Samford players rank in the top five in the Southern Conference in several different statistical categories entering this week. Stephen Klein ranks fourth in batting average (.361), second in on-base percentage (.475) and first in hit-by-pitch (12). Colton Ledbetter is tied for fourth in home runs (10). Maurice Hampton is tied for fifth in the league in stolen bases (12). Carson Hobbs ranks second in the SoCon in saves (7) and games finished (13).

  • Samford will play host to the 22nd-ranked Wofford Terriers in a three-game Southern Conference series this weekend at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The teams are set to play Friday at 4 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
