BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Men's Basketball Team will look to bounce back on Wednesday, Feb. 1 when they take on the Western Carolina Catamounts in Southern Conference play in Cullowhee, N.C.
Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. (CST), with the contest streaming live on
ESPN+.
Wednesday's match-up is the 30th meeting between Samford and WCU, in a series that dates back to 1961-62. The Bulldogs hold a 15-14 series advantage.
The teams met earlier this season on Jan. 21 in the Pete Hanna Center, with Samford earning a 74-65 win. The Bulldogs have won their last four games against the Catamounts and five of their last seven.
Four Bulldogs scored in double figures in their most recent victory against the Catamounts this season, with Glover's 20 points leading the way.
Jermaine Marshall tallied 14 points and 12 rebounds while
Bubba Parham (12) and
Logan Dye (11) both finished with a double-digit scoring total.
Free-throw shooting was an x-factor in the Bulldogs' home win over Western Carolina, where they shot a season-high 92 percent (22-24) and sank all 13 shots from the charity stripe in the second half.
The Bulldogs are coming off an 85-77 loss at Wofford on Saturday, dropping the team's SoCon record to 8-2 and putting the Bulldogs in a three-way tie with UNCG and Furman for first place in the SoCon standings.
Glover led the Bulldogs with 20 points in Wednesday night's loss, his second-20 point effort in his three games back with Samford in SoCon action. Since his return on Jan. 21,
Ques Glover is averaging 18.3 points per game over a three-game stretch.
Logan Dye currently ranks second in the SoCon in scoring average in conference games at 17.9 points per game. The senior forward ranks second in field goal percentage (56.1%) and third in three-point efficiency (44%) in SoCon games.
Dye sits 26th in school history in career scoring with 1,026 points in his time at Samford. He became the 30th member of the men's basketball program's 1,000-point club at Furman on Jan. 25.
The month of January saw the Bulldogs average 77.4 points, 33.1 rebounds, and 12.5 assists per game over eight contests. Samford shot 47 percent from the field and 36 percent from three.
Dye averaged 17 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Bulldogs in January while Marshall hauled in a team-high 7.9 rebounds per game.
The Bulldogs were most recently receiving votes in the CollegeInsider.com Men's Mid Major Top 25 poll. Samford was accompanied by Furman in the poll, who checked in at no. 16.
The Catamounts of Western Carolina (12-11, 5-5 SoCon) picked up a 71-65 win at VMI their last time out on Saturday, Jan. 28. Vonterius Woolbright posted a team-high 19 points while Tyzhaun Claude tallied 18 points and 13 rebounds in the win.
Claude leads WCU in both scoring and rebounding averaging 15.3 points and 8.5 boards per game. Woolbright (14.3 PPG) and Tre Jackson (14 PPG) both are also averaging double figures in scoring.
The Catamounts come into Wednesday's contest ranking fourth in the SoCon in scoring defense in conference play, allotting just 69.5 points per game against SoCon opponents.
