ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Jermaine Marshall was named to the 2023-23 Preseason All-Southern Conference team on Wednesday while the Samford Men's Basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the coaches poll and second in the media poll.
Marshall (Brighton, Ala.) earns his second-straight Preseason All-SoCon nod after being named to the 2022-23 All-SoCon Media Second Team. He averaged 13.3 points and a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game last season while shooting 47 percent from the floor, 38 percent from three, and 80 percent from the free throw line.
The senior forward saved his best performances for conference play, where he averaged 14.6 points and 6.9 rebounds. Marshall converted 42 percent of his three-point attempts against SoCon opponents, a mark that ranked second-best in the league.
Reigning SoCon champs Furman were picked first in both polls, with UNCG and Western Carolina coming in at second and third in the Coaches poll. The Bulldogs tied with Western Carolina for second place in the media poll, with both teams accumulating 134 points in the voting process. A full list of both polls can be found below.
