Bulldogs Set To Compete In SoCon Tournament This Weekend

GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. CHATTANOOGA (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford University soccer team will open play in the Southern Conference Tournament by taking on the Chattanooga Mocs in the quarterfinal round Friday at 6 p.m. (CT) at ETSU's Summers-Taylor Stadium.
 
The winner of Friday night's game will take on the winner of Friday's earlier game between the host ETSU and Mercer, in Sunday's semifinal round at 1 p.m. (CT), also at Summers-Taylor Stadium. The winner of Sunday's semifinal contest will advance to the SoCon Tournament Championship game, which will be played the following weekend at the home field of the highest remaining seed.

Samford and Chattanooga have met 19 previous times, with Samford owning a 16-1-2 series lead. The teams met last week in the regular-season finale for both teams, with Samford earning a 2-0 win.
  
Samford enters the game with a record of 10-3-5 overall and 6-1-2 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs are coming off a 2-0 win over Chattanooga Sunday afternoon. Samford has an all-time record of 22-8-5 in Southern Conference Tournament games, including a 1-0 record against Chattanooga.
 
This season, Samford has been led offensively by Kyla Reynolds and Mary Raymond with five goals and two assists for 12 total points each. Layla Brown has three goals and five assists for a total of 11 points this season. Goalkeeper Zoe Clevely, along with the Samford backline, has led the Bulldogs to 12 shutouts this season, tied for the second most in the nation. Seven of the shutouts have been solo for Clevely, while backup Emma Donley has assisted in five of the shutouts. Lindsay Origliasso and Kylie Gazza are both tied for the most career games in program history with 97 each.
 
Chattanooga enters Friday's game with a record of 10-6-1 overall and 4-4-1 in Southern Conference play. The Mocs are coming off a 1-0 loss at Samford last Sunday. The Mocs have been led this season by Caroline Richvalski with seven goals and three assists and Birna Johannsdottir with five goals and seven assists, both with 17 total points. Chattanooga goalkeeper Caroline Ekern has started 16 of the team's 17 games in goal, allowing 19 goals for a 1.20 goals against average.
