GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford men's basketball team will play its home opener when the Bulldogs play host to Mississippi College Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.
Tuesday night's game will mark the 67th meeting between Samford and Mississippi College, with Samford owning a 37-29 series lead. The teams last met during the 2021-22 season, with Samford earning an 83-58 win in the Pete Hanna Center.
Samford enters the game with a mark of 0-2 on the young season. The Bulldogs opened the campaign with a 98-45 loss at second-ranked Purdue on Nov. 6. Samford then played at VCU last Friday night, with the Bulldogs dropping a hard-fought 75-65 decision at VCU.
So far this season, Samford has been led by senior forward
Jermaine Marshall, averaging 11.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Junior
A.J. Staton-McCray is scoring 9.0 points per game, while grabbing 4.5 boards per contest.
Achor Achor leads the team in rebounding, averaging 5.5 rebounds per game. Samford head coach
Bucky McMillan is in his fourth season in charge of the program. Last season, he led Samford to a share of its first Southern Conference regular-season title.
The Mississippi College Choctaws enter Tuesday night's game with a record of 1-1 on the young season. MC opened the season with a 61-52 loss at Albany State on Friday, Nov. 10. On Sunday, the Choctaws earned a 59-56 win over Central State in MC's home opener.
In the win over Central State, Rashad Bolden led the Choctaws with 28 points. Dekyre Fuller added eight points, while Lucas Heflen and Gabe Johnson tallied six points each. Mississippi College head coach Randy Bolden is in his third season leading the Choctaws' program. He has posted a record of 23-34 at Mississippi College, and he has a career record of 81-65 and is now in his seventh season as a collegiate head coach.
Following Tuesday night's game, Samford will remain at home to play host to South Carolina State on Friday, Nov. 17. The game is set for a 6:30 p.m. start from the Pete Hanna Center.
