SAMFORD MTE GAME NOTES (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford men's basketball team will play host to a multi-team event over the Thanksgiving holiday this week in the Pete Hanna Center. The Bulldogs will take on Alabama State Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., Merrimack Friday at 3 p.m. and North Carolina A&T Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
Samford and Alabama State have met six times, with ASU holding a 4-2 series lead. Samford and Merrimack will meet for the first time, while Samford and North Carolina A&T have played just once, with Samford earning a 77-75 win during the 2021-22 season.
 
Samford enters the week with a mark of 2-2 on the young season. The Bulldogs last played Friday evening, earning an 89-72 win over South Carolina State.
  
So far this season, Samford has been led by senior forward Jermaine Marshall, averaging 14.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Junior Achor Achor is scoring 11.5 points and grabbing 7.3 boards per contest. Junior A.J. Staton-McCray is averaging 9.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Samford head coach Bucky McMillan is in his fourth season in charge of the program. Entering this week, he has a collegiate career record of 50-37. Last season, he led Samford to a share of its first Southern Conference regular-season title.  
 
The Alabama State Hornets enter the week with a record of 1-3. ASU is coming off a 92-75 loss at Memphis Friday night. T.J. Madlock leads ASU in scoring, with an average of 16.8 points per game.
 
The Merrimack Warriors have a record of 2-2 after a 76-52 loss at Ohio State last Wednesday. The Warriors are led in scoring by Jordan Derkack with an average of 16.3 points per game.
 
The North Carolina A&T Aggies have a mark of 0-3 after an 80-51 loss at Virginia last Tuesday. The Aggies have been led offensively by Landon Glasper, scoring 18.7 points per game.
