Men’s Basketball Adds Two During Early Signing Period

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's basketball program has signed a pair of newcomers to National Letters of Intent, head coach Bucky McMillan announced Wednesday.

Caleb Harrison (6-9, 205, F, Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville HS) and Zion Wilburn (6-5, 190, G, Richmond, Calif., AZ Compass Prep School) both officially signed with the Bulldogs and will be freshmen on the 2024-25 Samford squad.

"We are extremely excited that Caleb and Zion will be joining our program," McMillan said. "Both are great players who will make major impacts on the court throughout their time at Samford. They embody everything our university is about and will flourish academically and socially while leaving their mark on SamU, as SamU will certainly leave its mark on them. They both come from great families who have raised them to be the special people and elite competitors that they are. I'm eager to get them on campus soon and help further their development both on and off the court."

Harrison was an All-State selection, as well as being named 7A Area 7 MVP as a junior at Huntsville. He was also a two-time member of the Huntsville Times Classic All-Tournament team. During his junior season, he averaged 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game for a team that went 24-9 overall and reached the AHSAA 7A quarterfinals. For his sophomore season, Harrison scored 12.0 points and grabbed 9.0 rebounds per contest.

Wilburn, over the last two seasons, has averaged 15.2 points per game at the prestigious AZ Compass Prep School. He averaged a career-high 15.6 points per game in 2021-22, and he scored 14.8 points and grabbed 4.6 rebounds per game during the 2022-23 season. As a junior, he scored in double figures 21 times, and he scored at least 20 points in seven different games. He was named a 3SSB All-American, and a two-time All-League and Tri-State first team honoree.
