GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT VALPARAISO (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford men's basketball team will play on the road for the first time in over a month when the Bulldogs play at Valparaiso Tuesday afternoon. The game is set for a 1 p.m. start from Valparaiso's Athletics-Recreation Center.
 
Samford and Valparaiso have met just four previous times, with the series tied at 2-2. The teams met last season in Birmingham, with Samford winning, 79-49.
 
Samford enters the week with a mark of 8-2 on the young season. The Bulldogs hosted Belmont on Saturday in the Pete Hanna Center, with Samford earning a 99-93 victory in the game. Samford has won its last nine-straight games, the longest win streak since the 1998-99 team won 13-straight games. Samford recently wrapped up a nine-game homestand, the longest in program history.
 
So far this season, Samford has been led by junior Achor Achor, averaging 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, leading the team in both categories. Junior A.J. Staton-McCray is averaging 13.2 points per game, while senior Jermaine Marshall is scoring 11.7 points per game.
 
Entering Tuesday's game, Samford ranks in the top five in the nation in several categories. Samford ranks in the top five in bench points per game (3rd-39.73 ppg.), fastbreak points per game (4th-19.64 pg.), assists per game (5th-20.9), turnovers forced per game (4th-18.45 pg.) and steals per game (5th-11.7 pg.).
 
The Valparaiso Beacons enter Tuesday afternoon's game with a record of 4-7 overall and 0-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play. Valparaiso most recently played against Chicago State Saturday, falling by a score of 63-62.
 
Valparaiso has been led so far this season by Isaiah Stafford, averaging 17.5 points per game. Cooper Schwieger is averaging 10.5 points per contest. Jaxon Edwards scores 8.8 points per game and leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 6.3 boards per contest.
