SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior relief pitcher
Carson Hobbs was named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Hobbs picked up a pair of saves for the Bulldogs last week, which began with him working a 1-2-3 ninth inning in which he struck out two batters to lock down a 7-6 midweek win over Jacksonville State on Feb. 21.
The Alabaster, Ala. native tossed the final four innings of the Bulldogs' 9-3 win at Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday, giving up just two hits and striking out five.
The junior closer enters the week leading both the SoCon and the country with a 0.00 earned run average. Hobbs additionally leads the SoCon with two saves and an opponent's batting average of .120. Hobbs has struck out 12 batters over eight innings of work this seasons while conceding just three hits.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday, March 1 when they host Alabama State at 4:00 p.m. from Joe Lee Griffin Field.
